Well you burst on the scene Already a legend
The unwashed phenomenon
The original vagabond You strayed into my arms

And there you stayed Temporarily lost at sea
The Madonna was yours for free
Yes the girl on the half-shell Would keep you unharmed

Now I see you standing With brown leaves falling around
And snow in your hair
Now you're smiling out the window Of that crummy hotel
Over Washington Square
Our breath comes out white clouds Mingles and hangs in the air
Speaking strictly for me We both could have died then and there

Now you're telling me You're not nostalgic
Then give me another word for it
You who are so good with words And at keeping things vague
Because I need some of that vagueness now

존 바에즈의 아버지는 물리학자였고, 스코틀랜드인 어머니는 희곡을 전공했다.
56년 마틴 루터 킹 2세의 사상과 간디주의 철학자 아이라 샌드펄은 그녀의 정치적 성향에 커다란 영향을 끼치게 된다. 58년 MIT에서 강의하게 된 아버지와 함께 보았던 보스톤의 한 커피하우스에서의 포크 공연이 포크 뮤지션의 계기가 되었다 한다.

 
밥 딜런과 함께 노래하는 존 바에즈... 1963년 워싱턴 D.C.에서 시민권 신장을 위한 행진을 한 뒤의 공연 모습. 존 바에즈, 킹스턴 트리오, 피터 폴 앤 메리가 등장하면서  '포크송 리바이벌' 이라는 포크 음악의 부흥이 시작되었고, 존 바에즈와 밥 딜런은 포크의 정신에 충만한 노래들과 실천으로 포크 음악의 왕과 여왕으로 군림했다
